This course will discuss new masonry and stone products in the market, including oversized veneers and design options to meet today's trending aesthetic demands. Proper detailing procedures that must be followed for effective moisture prevention and crack control will be expanded in detail.

After completing this course, attendees will be able to:

• Demonstrate proper detailing methods and procedures for moisture prevention.
• Describe sustainable design options in specifying large masonry veneers.
• Understand differences between wet cast and dry cast large masonry veneer units.

Manufactured stone veneers have come a long way since their introduction, with modern versions delivering the high performance and timeless aesthetics of natural stone at a fraction of the cost.

This presentation reviews the rising trend and use of manufactured stone veneers (MSV) and advancements in the manufacturing process which make new veneers more durable, easier to install and more aesthetically pleasing and delivers the natural aesthetic of real stone.

After completing this course, attendees will be able to:

• Define the difference between the dry and wet cast, as well as lighting and full-depth veneers in terms of aesthetics, cost considerations, ease of installation and maintenance.
• Describe veneer installation procedures that ensure moisture control and a long building life with minimal maintenance.
• Educate peers on how veneers contribute to a building’s durability and integrity.
• Effectively specify and detail well-constructed masonry veneer.

Sustainable design and green building are ever-evolving, with the latest version, LEED v4.1 introduced in 2019.

This course will explore the latest modifications to the LEED standard, with a particular emphasis on masonry compliance and contribution. Developed by LEED expert Christine A. Subasic, P.E., LEED A.P., the course will introduce attendees to sustainable design and provide an overview of the LEED Rating System, and its credit categories, with a particular emphasis on Materials and Resources, as well as covering criteria and considerations used in selecting masonry products for LEED projects.

After completing this course, attendees will be able to:

• Understand the changes in the Materials and Resources credit category in LEED v4.
• Identify elements of sustainable design that are not always part of green building rating systems.
• Provide an overview of the LEED v4.1 BD+C New Construction Rating System.
• Explain sustainable design strategies and LEED strategies that utilize masonry.
