Located in the heart of campus, UC Davis' new Student Health & Wellness Center supports a school mission to provide campus resources that enable students to achieve their academic goals while promoting lifelong wellness. Providing a variety of services for medical care, counseling, and wellness education, the building incorporates transparent curtain walls to reveal a vibrant, active interior that encourages use of the facility. Over 4800 custom-sized 4"x24" units of finely polished Trendstone Plus® were incorporated into the design to create a sophisticated and elegant connection between the interior of the building and the surrounding campus.
"Concrete masonry was chosen for its contextual connection to the other buildings on campus. Using custom polished Trenwyth units created an aesthetic that emphasizes the client's goal of promoting wellness more effectively than a typical masonry unit," said project architect Brian Milman. Trendstone Plus contributed to a number of credits to help the project target Gold LEED® status. Other contributing elements include a variety of lighting and thermal control initiatives, a green roof over the lobby, and a Wellness Garden of edible and medicinal plants irrigated by a stormwater retention system. Thus far, the project has garnered six local and national awards for design, construction, and sustainability.

Trendstone Plus® filled and polished ground face concrete masonry units have a smooth, maintenance-free terrazzo finish, offering the beauty of natural colored aggregates and the solid permanence of masonry. After an initial grinding process to expose the variegated aggregates, pores on the exposed face are filled with grout. The units then go through a multi-state polishing process and are finished with a clear satin gloss acrylic to accentuate the natural beauty of the aggregates and provide moisture resistance.
Suitable for exterior and interior applications for both load-bearing and non-loadbearing walls, Trendstone Plus provides lasting beauty that is mold, moisture, and fire-resistant and can contribute to a number of LEED® credits. Available in a variety of regional colors that reflect the local aggregate, Trendstone Plus offers the design flexibility of a variety of shapes and scoring patterns and is available with rounded corners and edges for ADA compliance. In addition, as part of Trenwyth's Monumental Series, oversized units of Trendstone Plus are available in most colors to create large-scale walls, columns and arches of monumental proportions.Back Download PDF
