Richard Stockton College, located in the picturesque township of Galloway, NJ,
developed a Master Plan to transform the visual impact of the university and emulate the vibrancy of the surrounding growing community. Central to this goal was the creation of a new campus center, sited at what was to become the head of a new campus green.
According to lead architect Allan W. Kehrt, FAIA, LEED AP, the primary design goal for the building was to express steel and masonry in a graceful and elegant way to create a memorable façade for all who enter the campus. "Franklin Stone allowed us to create the formality we desired while also lending an image of permanence to the exterior," said Kehrt.
Rough-hewn Franklin Stone clads the exterior and continues through to the walls and columns of the "Great Hall" of the interior, creating a continuous, congruent design. Achieving Gold LEED® certification, the 153,000 sq. ft. facility offers space for dining, lounges, and offices for the Bursar, Dean of Students, and Student Services. The building also houses a 200-seat theater, as well as campus radio and TV stations.
